A liger is a cross between a male African lion and a female Asian tiger; only the females are fertile. Some have a tendency for the white background of their belly to extend up their sides. One is almost pure white, with black markings; looks like a BIG harlequin cougar. While this may sound strange, not nearly as strange as encountering her in your back yard.

Years ago, was a “zoo” breading them, off the road a piece. When they were shut down, it was discovered that their cages had failed; cats had been going for walkabouts for some time, some even returning; several paths worn. Eventually, they accounted for 47 lions, tigers and ligers; but never knew how many there were to begin with.

One survived in our public lands for years, I suspect, because no one wanted to talk about seeing her; she was not shy. Haven’t seen her for a few years now. Strange, the things one misses.

It's pretty much my favorite animal.

There do be tigrons. While I have not seen one at my place, in Idaho anything is possible. General rule of thumb: If it don’t belong here, we’ve probably got some. We’ve have feral hogs, lions, tigers, ligers, alligators, sharks and Canadian wolves. Not to mention my neighbor’s exotic crossbred Eurafrican sheep.
