View Full Version : Questions about mailing components
Long story short a friend/co-worker's brother has to liquidate his Father-in-Laws gun stuff. The FiL was a reloader, his son-in-law is not. I have the opportunity to buy his re-loading stuff and have made a tentative offer. If his father in law has a bunch of components, can he mail them to me from Arizona? I'm only thinking of primers, powder, etc. If so, how?
Thanks
Andy
P.S. The powder is a maybe thing anyway, the guy would be better off selling it at a gun show or feeding the roses with it.

We can't easily mail "explosives", no powder or primers. Surely the family will eventually have a gathering in which your friend's brother could pick it up for you?

In a box
If it is not powder or primers the it would be like mailing anything else box it up weigh it mesure it. Then look on UPS, USPS, and Fedex and find the best price.

Opps slap me! I thought it said not think about the powders or primers. yeap gonna cost you.
Yeah, powder and primers are the problem, cases and bullets, just drop them in the mail.

P.S. Smokeless powder is not an "explosive" its just hazardous.
Strange regulations. Don't think an individual can ship powder or primers, however, loaded ammo CAN be shipped UPS. Just mark the outside of the package with ORM-D and declare the ammo on the shipping slip. If the clerk gives you a hard time, tell them to look up their own regulations.
Boy, that's for sure kdub. I shipped some loaded ammo on St. Valentine's day no trouble. Went back yesterday shipping some more to somewhere else and no problem BUT they called me 20 minutes later to say they were sorry, but they'd read the regs and I can't ship loaded ammo. I didn't complain to the counter clerk, just said OK I'd pick the package up after work. Called me again another 10 minutes later and said they were really, really sorry because yes, I can ship ammo. Gave me a new tracking number and it's all sent. Weird!

Stopped in the local gun store the other day to browse. A guy stopped in asking them about mailing a reloader back that he had bought because UPS said they could not ship it. That confused all of us! He was told to just ship it USPS.

I'd just declare the press as "Hand Tools".
Last time I shipped a gun, I declared it as "machine parts".

FedEx or UPS Ground with a HazMat upcharge. Go to either of their websites and you should be able to estimate cost to ship and see what the hazmat charge will be. I was a licensed pesticide applicator at my former job and that is how all of my material except for fumigants came in. The fumigants had to be shipped LTL truck. I also manage a Bass Pro outletpart time and all of my ammo and black powder come in FedEx Ground. You could also call Midway USA or another reloading suplier and ask how they ship their powder and primers.
