Hello to all. I recently (yesterday) purchased a Puma 92 stainless 16" 44 mag. Really cool little rifle. I am looking at upgrading the sights and would like recommendations. I like the idea of the tang sight but am not sure it would be right for the 16" barrel. Any recommendations for this nice little rifle would be appreciated.

I have the same rifle also and am looking to fit the scope. Not traditional I know but I discovered the barrell is tapped for it already.
I'll be watching your thread with interest!

Hi George,
I've got a few '92's, one being a Rossi .357 / 16" and it is fitted with a Williams receiver mounted peep sight. I use it without the disk for a "ghost ring" effect.

The only '92 I have fitted with a Lyman tang sight is a .25/20 carbine.

I much prefer a receiver mounted sight on a shorty.

Kirby.

Thanks for the information. Does the Williams sight require drilling the receiver?

Yes it does.
I've had a couple done for me by my gunsmith.
The Williams or Lyman peep sights cover them. If you ever remove the receiver sight ( doubt it ) you can just pop in some blank screws. Still looks good.
The original '92's had the receiver pre drilled.

. . . The original '92's had the receiver pre drilled.
Can you confirm that? I know the '92s had the tang pre-drilled to accept a tang peep sight but pre-drilled receiver???

Marshal,
sorry, I meant to say, my Winchester '92's were pre-drilled.
