I just sold my 40S&W pistol for which I used Winchester's Super Field powder. I have about a pound left.
Does anyone know if it could be used for some light target loads in my 38 special? Where could I get some load info for this?
I looked in all the books I have, on Winchester/Hogdon's website but did not find anything. With the price of loading components I hate to just throw the powder out in the yard.

thanks.

HELLO E.J.W. I checked the burning rates on this site and WSF IS NO. 31. slower than HERCO at no. 29 and UNIVERSAL ar no. 26 and BULLSEYE at no. 3. WSF would be really slow for light target loads in the 38 spl. there is a possibility of a squib load and sticking a bullet in the barrel. REALLY bad if you shoot another behind it. BULLSEYE or something in that burning speed would most likely work better.---morrow8

While usable in the .38 Special, it would not be an ideal choice for light loads. My own burn rate chart shows it in the same area as Blue Dot, so it would be suitable for medium-power loads.

You'd have to work up your own load data for it, which I would not try unless you are quite experienced. If it were me, I'd start with 158 cast bullets and Start-level loads using charges suitable for Blue Dot, then work up OR DOWN slowly. I'd base my decisions based on the velocities I got compared to Blue Dot velocities with identical charge weights.
