I found the Remington 798 in .308 win at Academy for $469. Good deal or about right?

they're not out of line. those are good rifles for the money, they imported them for just about forever as the interarms mark x and then as the charles daley. when remington aquired the rights to import them they improved the blueing and overall finish, solid rifle for the money.

I find the prices at academy to be among the best on most everything.

I looked at the Remington 798 today. Let's just say I moved on. The action was very rough and the finish wasn't what I was expecting. I guess the cost savings had to come somewhere.

The accuracy reports have been less than flattering as well.

You might check out the CZ 527's. Controlled round feed mini-mauser actions and the fantastic single set trigger. Whittakers has some of the best prices in the midwest if you live out that way. My old shooting partner just bought one of the varmint models at Sportsmans Warehouse for 539.00 in Spokane Wa. Mine and his shoot dime sized groups at a hundred and I just rolled a coyote with mine at 385 yards.
Here's a couple of links to check them out.
