Hey everyone; I just bought a nice Winchester Model 94 Ranger today at a local gun store. Up until now, the only rifle I own is an AR15. It actually kinda came out of nowhere; I went with a buddy of mine to get his own AR15, and I was talking to the guy there about how I'd like to one day have a lever action rifle. He had a couple Winchesters but they were both too much for me to afford right now. Then he says "I think I may still have a Model 94 in the safe back there I was holding for a guy for over a week now." He went and looked and there it was. It's used, but it looks and feels like it just came out of the box. He got sick of waiting on the guy so he sold it to me.

I got the rifle for $275 after tax which included the owner's manual and a box of Winchester ammo for it. The rifle itself was actually marked $250. I took it out back of the store to their range and shot it before I got it, and it shoots real nice and is a fun little gun. I was originally thinking of getting a Henry .22LR lever action, but I'm glad I got the .30-.30 Winchester instead. Really though, is there any other way to do a lever action? Stick with "the gun that won the west"!

So do you folks think I did ok? I'll try and get some pics up soon so you all can check it out. Also, a quick question; any way to use the serial number to determine when the gun was made? Thanks for any help you may have!

It is my fav gun. I own several. Enjoy. If you hunt or want to streach the distance signifigantly try Hornady's LEVERlution .30/30 ammo. Truly amazing improvment to conventional round or flat nosed ammo.

Congratulations,on your great purchase. You would expect to pay a lot more for it around here.
ALL things considered, the Winchester '94 is second to none, for hunting whitetails in the woods.

Thanks for the warm welcome and advice. I went to the link Jack posted, but my 94 is too new, so that site didn't have the serial #. Here it is:
