just curious if anyone here can give me a simple answer without me spending money and finding out the hard way! i'm curious how much a bullet of soft lead can be sized down. what im thinking of doing is resizing a .458 or .459 cast down to .452 to fit a sabot in my muzzleloader. the lead is pure so its soft, but im not sure if i can size it down that much... thanks guys!

The inexpensive way to try this is get one of the Lee sizing kits. they come in about any size you need. I don't see any problem with sizing down a 458 cast bullet to 452, but why not just get a mold the right size. I use the Lee molds and their only around 20 bucks. Check the prices out a midway for both the sizing kits that go on your press (these are push thru sizers) and the bullet molds.
If there for use in sabot's you don't have to worry about messing up the lube grooves in them when sizing them down or lubing them.

i've looked around and can't find a .452 mold anywhere over 300gr yet i aldready have a few over 400gr, which is what im looking for. the plan is to get one of those lee sizers, just thought i'd throw up a post and see what others said before i made the purchase. thanks for the help

.006 is a lot to ask of a sizer but if it is soft as you say i.e. 10 Bnh or under it might not put undue stress on the linkage. 14 Bnh or higher I wouldn't attempt for many boolits as I have broken linkage a couple of times sizing from .438 down to .432 with 23 Bnh and up.

If you tumble lube them with liquid alox prior to sizing it really helps get those bigger bullet thru the Lee sizer.
