I recently bought a "94" Trapper 30-30 over the net. The serial number is 5375XXX, I estimate the manufacture date to be about mid 1980"s, is this about right? The stock and forearm appear to be a straight grain walnut, but I'm no expert could this be a birch stock. The barrel stamping says Winchester 94Ae 30-30. Any info appreciated. I read somewhere on the net that rangers with 16" barrels were available, was ranger stamped on the barrel as were the one's with 20" barrels. I was at a local gunshop that has a nice 20" "94"Ae ranger for 250.00 with a 6XXXXXX ser. #, this might get added to the collection, any thoughts. I fairly new to hunting and collecting Winchesters and I look forward to any advice.

Nice gun. I thought about getting a .44 trapper just little too long. Can't help on the build date, all the references I have found end before the 80s. If it is a Trapper, it has a Walnut stock and fore-end. Mainly I just wanted to say, nice gun, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum, Seanik.

Your Trapper was made in 1986. The Ranger in a trapper style was not available until much later. Your gun was made in the USRA's Chapter 11 period and as such could have almost any combination of parts. Your stock could be almost anything but is most likely Walnut. Screws were of poor quality on some of these guns and, yes, I would replace them. Parts supplies are drying up on these Winchesters so don't waste any time getting what you need.

Welcome to the forum Seanik. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.

I'm not a lever guy, but looks like you got some good info already. Here's a place to check on screws and parts.

Thanks to all for the good info. I forgot to mention the trapper has a 4X Leupold scope mounted. I Broke it down for a good cleaning and it looked ok, the screw heads weren't buggered up. The tubular mag put some rust on the solvent soaked patches I run through it. After cleaning, everything got a good oiling with tri-flo before re-assembly. I also hand rubbed the stock and forearm with boiled linseed oil.It looks and feels great, waiting for some decent weather here in NW Pa for a test fire and checking the scope zero.

I have a 94ae with the large loop and 16" barrel. It has the 619xxxx s/n and I'm pretty sure it was made somewhere between 1993 and 1996
