After some frustration with my .204. I went back to my 30-06. I hit one at about 75 yards. Which gave a great space shuttle shot. He was still tumbling in the air when I looked up over the scope.

We've had quite a winter here Darkker, and it will be May before I'm out in my local haunts. I hope those chislers aren't drowning in their sleep here! Our Snake River canyon south of here will probably have rockchucks out in March. Cabin fever is setting in here, and I may have to go south and get some trigger therapy.

I'll bet the '06 on that rockchuck showed up on some military satellite detecting launches! I've been using a 17 Rem, but that little 25 gr bullet doesn't lift them up very well. The 25-06 does just fine, but I'm eyeing getting a Rem 700 in 243 SPS, topped with a new Burris 4-12x laser scope that is sitting on the bench ready for duty.

You can say that again! I was over blasting with Darkker the past few days and I sure miss the (relatively) early spring there. We've still got a bunch of snow here and the Snake's still iced over and the ice is buried in snow. <sigh></sigh>

P.S. The '06-blasted chuck pictures were quite the sight!

Our 2005/2006 winter was great, but put a damper on our access to our annual rockchuck and squirrel shooting long weekend. One road was washed out at a culvert and hadn't even been marked with orange cones by the county. If we weren't paying attention, we could have dropped right into the creek! This, on an unmaintained road, mind you. Had to turn around and take a hour+ detour to get at the chuck grounds from another direction.

2006/2007 was a dismal winter, and access was good, a bit too good. Chucks were weary and sparse from early pressure.

This year, if we have a normal spring (we've had a good winter thus far), it will keep the pressure off a bit just due to limited access. Some of our spots get a break in a good snow year simply because we can't cross some creeks without risking life. That's OK, because those areas are phenomenal the following year.

We usually make it out for an annual long weekend on the weekend before Memorial weekend. We've had to abandon hitting some regular haunts depending upon the runoff, but can pass some warm mid-day slow action by fishing in some nearby reservoirs. The boredom is almost unbearable.:rolleyes:
