I have a sporterized 1916 Spanish Mauser that is currently in 7mm Mauser, but is in need of rebarreling. This action should be limited to 46k CUP. I would like to rebarrel in a cartridge that I do not have to be overly concerned about overpressure, either now or after my grandkids get it. That eleminates going back with the 7mm as it needs to be restricted to start loads.
Does anyone have any favorites that I should consider?

6.5 by 55 might be one to consider.

(I swear I already posted to this - wonder what became of it...)
Anyway, in that case head (and breechface) size, one choice would be 300 Savage. The 7mm is a few thousandths bigger in nominal head diameter, but the Mauser extractor is generously sized, and small 7x57 brass is hardly unheard of. So it shouldn't matter.
Had a Mexican Mauser chambered in .300 Savage years ago. Matter of fact, the first centerfire rifle purchased in a long string of rifles. Sure wish I'd kept the handy little Mauser. The .300 Savage was the model for the .308 Win.

6.5x55 Swede, .257 Roberts, .250 Savage - all stuff I have and like.
Good luck and have fun.
