I am fed up with having to put so much pressure to sit my saboted bullet in my muzzleloader that I took some mmp orange .458 sabot an put some .452 bullet in them and tried to seat them in my barrel..... Well what a suprised it had about 10 pound resistance but it was a pleasur no climbing on the ram rod to seat it....
I measured the bullet and sabot it mike at .499 with the .452 bullet and at .503 with thei red sabot it came with (hornady 300 gr. wit ezy glide sabot..... what .003 difference make
my question his.... havef someone tried it and will thal little pressure be anough to spin this bullet for accuracy....

That's interesting Canuck. I don't think I've ever seen any reports of someone using .452s in the .458 sabot. Should work fine if the combo is snug in your barrel.

I think I would load it, then (without a primer) hold the muzzle down and gently bump it on something padded, like a piece of carpet on concrete. Then check with the ramrod to see where the load is in the barrel. If the bullet stays put in the sabot you should be good to go.

Give us an accuracy report when you shoot it.

Like OneEyedJack said. Two 5 shots groups will tell the story, and beats my guess about accuracy by a mile.

I would be interested to see how this works out but I doubt if you will get any accuracy with this combination since the bullet is so much undersized for the sabot. Have you tried using Harvester crush rib sabots? They load very easily with the .452 bullet.

[SIZE="7"][SIZE="3"]Hey Canuck,

Tight barrels are a pain. I would suggest a .45cal bullet with actual diameter of .451" as apposed to a .452" diameter. Such as Nosler .45cal 250gr handgun bullet. That right there will buy you .001" of extra clearance in you barrel. Next go to MMP sabots for their HPH 3-petal EZ load sabots. I have found the 3-petal sabots to be thinner than the Harvester crush ribs.
If that doesn't work or is too complicated for you, then sell the gun and buy a Knight.
James.
