Im sure this has been said before but i could not find it. i just started muzzle loading and i love it! i lube my bullets with BORE BUTTER at the range. Its starting to be very messy with the heat of the desert. what i want to know if and how to do it easier. i saw on midway lube called DGL BULLET LUBE in a 12oz tub. can i use this to pan lube ? how do i pan lube? Is there a home made lube or something i dont know to do.
I basicly want to lube before the trip to the range.
any help will be great . thanks

I'm a fair ways north of you, but Lyman Black Powder Gold is pretty stiff at room temperature. You pan lube by setting the bullets upright in a shallow pan and pouring melted lube around them. You may a bit of oven heat to get a good groove fill. Punch them out when the lube cools.
There's lots of homebrew lube recipes. I'll leave it to the desert dwellers to suggest a good one.

Dan at the Bull Shop has the best lube around IMO. And the best bullets :)

You will not find a "non-messy" lube that is worth a hoot.
YOu could try shooting patched round balls its less messy. If your rifle can shoot them.

Personally I shoot round balls and black powder but I do also shoot minnies in paper cartridge rifles as well as cast bullets in a number of rifles and handguns.
I use the same lube as a number of old timers use. It is a 50/50 mix of peanut oil and pure beeswax. It sure has worked over the years.

I make my own using 1/3 lard, 1/3 bee's wax, and 1/3 olive oil. You can vary the hardness by adding or reducing the olive oil. For a patch lube straight olive oil works nicely.
cool! olive oil. I love it. I buy it by the gallon. I can now sit around with my friends eating fresh baked homemade bread dripping in olive oil and garlic THEN lube up my patches without having to buy another tube of something! I am psyched!
Thanks for the recommendation!
