Fit and finish is real nice, and it's very accurate.

Looks nice Swampman. Besides the things you mention, this rifle is one you can pass on to children or grandchildren. It's that well made.

Congrats on your new rifle. I have one, and wouldn't dream of being without a good 39A. great shooters. I was to tight to buy one for many years, and finally ran across a very nice one at a local flea market. I traded a Ruger pistol to it. Couldn't afford to shoot the pistol. Drew a bit of boot on the deal as well.

I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

Oh now THERE'S a surprise! ;)

Gotta love the Marlin 39A - the one I used growing up was probably the best shooting .22 rifle I have ever had my hands on. I would routinely pull off plinking shots with that where it surprised me that I actually hit it.

One day when I was in my mid teens I was out at the local landfill doing some plinking with a friend. (quite normal for Southwest Nebraska at the time) We were down in a pit looking for things to shoot at when another guy came up, started talking to us and said, "here, you want something to shoot, shoot this." He picked up an old golf ball that was nearby and winged it across the floor of the pit where it went bouncing and skittering along. I snapped the rifle to my shoulder, cocking the hammer as it went up. CRACK! Yep - nailed it in mid bounce. The look on the guy's face was priceless. :D (Let's try to look past the fact that the end result of that shot was mostly out of pure, dumb luck.)

Good job on getting your 39A - that one's definitely a long term keeper.

That gun has a lot nicer wood than my 1975 model. Mine is very light with not much grain showing. I'm thinking of refinishing it.

I'll be purchasing a 39A in a day or so. I'll put a scope on it. I don't recall if the finish is matt or shiney. I'd like the scope to match. Let me know. Thanks.

I'v never held one-are they more "rifle-size" than a win. 9422? Also that barrel looks large for a .22. I would like a heavy barrel for the heft and accuracy.

Hello All,

I'm in the market for a .22. I shoot left handed, so I am looking at the Marlin 39A as the best choice. I mentioned it to my firearms dealer, and he thought the price $500-$600 was pretty steep for a .22.

So, when you can pick up a .22 for a lot less, is the 39A worth the price?

Thanks.

You won't regret it. The 39A is worth every penny they cost. I have seen a couple nice used ones around here lately for 275.00 to 350.00. Have seen new ones for 449.00.

Huge Gator, the 39A is more rifle sized than the Win 9422. Here is mine between some other Marlins. It is in the center.
