Safest States, these are New England states listed as they rate overall.

Massachusetts Ranked 22nd in Safest States, Well Below Other New England States

On March 14, 2008 CQPress released the latest edition of their publication that tracks the safest and most dangerous states in the country. The edition, Crime State Rankings 2008, has ranked Massachusetts only 22nd in the list of safest states. The rest of the New England states ranked as follows:

New Hampshire #1

Maine #2

Vermont #4

Connecticut #11

Rhode Island #12

Massachusetts #22

This came from NEshooters.com. Says something for Free states. We all own guns!
In 1993 over 10,000,000 guns were sold in NH, before the Brady bill came into effect. The State of NH deemed it unconstitutional under state law. It had a bad effect, don't you think? Glad I'm in NH!!!!

jp - Now look up the states with the highest number of guns per capita. Four or five years ago Maine was # 1 nationally; I'm not sure what it is exactly now, but I'm willing to bet that Maine & NH are way up there still. Safest states/ highest gun ownership?...whaddyaknow!!

You NE'ers need a convention to get your nicknames straight. I have a friend who lives in Gray, Maine, who swears the term is "New Hampster". And the folks from south of N.H. who keep moving to Maine and trying to put Massachusetts type laws into effect for Mainers to suffer under are generally referred to rather less politely in terms of Mass combined with something you dig into the ground.

The Great Ammo Factory in the Sky

Indeed, my friend's gun club had a run in with some of them Mass*****. They put up a development some five miles away and claimed bullets were falling on them. They actually went before a judge to get some kind of cease fire order, and as proof, placed a handful of unfired cartridges in evidence, claiming they had fallen on their development from the sky. Needless to say, they made quite an impression on the judge.

Actually, I think this was their second pass at getting an order from the judge. The first time they had no evidence, and figured they'd better have something next time around. It probably helped that county LEA's borrow that range for training and that there was no history of a problem. I am just guessing, but I suspect the developers may have had in mind to acquire property even closer to the range and wanted it shut down before taking that gamble. It won't be a current problem, what with the housing market the way it is.

Gotta love the northeast.

I turned down a really good job in Worcester because I would have to live in MA, and what would come of my gun collection then????

Live free or die!

The polite term we use is P.F.A. , which stands for "Person From Away". As you noted it goes downhill from there in terms that can be more appropriately descriptive based on the thoughts and actions of the individual in question.

I live in the wonderful state of Maryland near "Bawlmer". The city of Baltimore I believe is in the top 5 in the nation for most homicides per year. The gun laws in Maryland at the moment seem reasonable enough, but the general attitude that gets presented by the local media is that we need more gun laws.

I grew up in Nebraska and wish I lived there now, but it's not to be - the missus is local to the area so it looks like I'm stuck here the rest of my life.

Ayuh on the term for Mass****s. Use it regularly like. I could mention some others, particularly for folks from New Joisey but we'll just stick with PFA:D

When I went through the USMC Combat Pistol course (a most interesting experience. Apparently, one is not allowed to be left-handed in the Corps) we were repeatedly reminded to "aim for the center of mass." I made the obvious joke, the Instructor was Not Amused. Musta been from Mass...

It is pronounced M@ssholes my northern brother. You must pronounce it correctly, although R is missing from the Mass alphabet. We have them moving up here in droves also. Even our liberals here are to right wing for their taste. We had a Mass transplant arrested in a local Walmart though. A gentleman bent down to look at an item, well his holster and handgun became exposed. This "lady" started screaming, "Oh my god, he has a gun". The store manager promptly called the Hooksett police. After talking to the gentleman, they walked over and gave her 3 summons. Disturbing the peace, causing a public nuisance, and inciting a riot. They calmly told her that if he had been an undercover officer, they would have added 3 felonies to the list. She told them that nothing like this would happen in Mass. She was politely told she should go back. As for the folks from Jersey, just as them what exit they are from. No one is from a town, just an exit. The land of Red clay, Pine barrens and the shore (BTW, It smells bad). Jim

I have been carrying exposed lately. Not to malls, and probably not walmart, nothing too "public eye". But around town and stuff. I have only had one person bother me about it. I explained that it was legal and I am licensed to carry it and that seemed to satisfy them. I was sitting at the bar at the local diner having breakfast last week, a local PO came in, sat next to me and looked down at it. I'm thinking, great, here it comes. He leaned over to talk to me and wanted to know what it was. "Pull it out, let me see it." I guess he really liked 1911s.

I'll never move.

Latest issue of American Hunter magazine (April 2008, page 24) states that Maine is 5th highest of all states w/ regard to the percentage of the population that hunts, with 11%. It's also highest for all states east of the Mississippi. Montana is highest with 15.2%. Way to go Sunday Creek!
