Hi
I just read the latest "Outdoor Life",and it mentiones Oswego as the best place in New York for a whitetail hunter to live.
Also listed as "good",is Cornwall,Orange County and Port Jervis,Orange County.Cornwall is the next city to the south of Newburgh,on the Hudson river. That's my favorite hunting spot.
Port Jervis is on the Western edge of the County,on the Deleware river.Pennslyvania is on the West bank of the river.

Sounds like a good place to hunt but I would have to get up really early to drive up there for a morning hunt.:D

There is a thread on the "general"board started by someone in Sweden, and answered by flashhole, from Oswego,New York.
The pictures from both places depict beautiful, and similar landscapes.
I just advised them that the magazine"Outdoor Life",thinks so too.

Burst my bubble. I live in Owego, NY, not Oswego, NY. Oswego is 300 miles to the west of where I am but we have excellent deer hunting here too. I don't post in this forum too often, mostly hang out at the reloading and rifle forums but I was looking for the right place to start a new thread when I found this one.

I was out checking off number 2 of 5 on the wife's "Honey-Do" list, that being put in another fenced horse pasture, so I was out pounding T-posts in the ground. I was treated to a gobbler serenade by 4 different gobblers! They were working real hard trying to attract those hens and they were about 100 yards apart. Man were they in fine voice. It was almost comical. When I got back to the house I took out my box call and started chirpping like a hen. That really set them off but none came out to show themselves.

There are about 2 dozen does that hang out on the property and are seen on a regular basis (like every day when I go to work). Most of them will be dropping fawns in the next month or so. I've decided to let some of the hay fields grow to provide them a fawning area. We had several doe/fawn pairs around last year. This year should be no different.

I worked in Port Jervis for a few summers as a teenager. It was not a nice town in the '70's. 1 general store, 2 bars, and a strip club. JP

As many times that I visitd Port Jervis,I don't recall stopping for anything other then a traffic light.
There is some pretty Country around it,though.
