I'd like to get into SASS in the near future, and these seem to be some of the least expensive rifles for the task. Does anyone here have any experience with them or know about their reliability?

They're made by Rossi, I believe, and, yes -- they are very nice rifles. Mine is a 16" carbine in .45 Colt, imported probably 10-12 years back (before they put the ugly bolt safeties on them) by the late firearms importer Interarms.

Nothing really wrong with them, but if you buy a Marlin, it won't be hard to get your money back, should you ever decide to sell it. Plus, that seems to be what the top shooters all use. (I, personall, hate marlins)

EMF is a distributer, not a manufacturer, so they and others purchase their '92s from Rossi who makes the bulk of these rifles. Each distributer can have different features put on their rifles like better polish, no tang safety, higher grade wood, etc. so you might look around before buying. EMF, Navy Arms, Cimarron, are a few of the dealers who handle Rossi so check out their sites. The Rossi has a good reputation for being a well-made accurate rifle with a strong action. They are very popular with the CAS shooters. BTW, you might come across the same rifle with the trade name of Puma. Best wishes.

For what it's worth, I have two (.357 & .44) and want more. Absolutly great short rifles, problem free. The old Browning M92s are better, but they aren't being made anymore. You may want to buy Steve Young's tuning CD, or give him a call (stevesgunz.com). EMF just started putting Rossi's bolt safety on their M92s, and if you don't like it - then buy an EMF made before 2008 or "fixit" per the CD.

Here is a pre-safety .357 with tang sight and tuned by Steve Young. Great rifle and lots of fun.

+ several dozen on an EMF Hartford Rossi tuned by Steve Young. Tuning Rossis for CAS is his main gig.
Here's mine.
