Has anybody have any experience with the Traditions Buck Hunter pistol?

Mine is a .50 cal., nickel finish, black painted wood grips, 12 3/4" barrel with a screw-on muzzle brake. It shoots plenty good using 348 grain Powerbelt bullets and 60 grains FFFG Goex. Bullet expansion is minimal due to the light powder loads. Over-all a good pistol except the barrel is noticeably tighter out on the threaded end, making it sometimes tough to load. Mine hates round balls. Would like to have it in the .54 caliber that once was available. I think the 9" barreled version would do just as well and be easier to holster. I us the Nobel #1075 caps with no ignition problems.

Thank you for the info. What is the max recommended powder charge, and have you tried any lighter bullets?

If memory don't fail, I believe the .50 was listed at 60 grains Max. but I've fired a lot of 80 grain FFFG loads with no problems except more recoil. 295 grain cast bullets worked well. I suspect most bullets in the 300 gr. range would work well. The heavy 405 grain bullets aren't much fun to practice with.
--I forgot to say the barrels have a unique cammed/screw set-up to remove the barrel. I think you'll find it a pain after a time or two. Much easier just to flush out the frame and swab the barrel while it is still on the pistol. Hope this helps.
