Hey riflemen : was at a gunstore and can get a winchester that looks really old... but I am confused : it looks to have a damascus grain in the steel; both in the barrel and the tube...the color is like a white steel or chrome or nickel; so I am totally confused... the caliber is 32 20... I can get it in a trade but do not know if it even works well ... it is a left behind gun from a smith's shop that he is about to assume ownership of... and I am gonna trade the work to get all the ten year abandoned guns to become his.. I will need some guidance : how to tell age; how to tell if it will be a shooter versus a keeper; how to tell if it may be worth a lot or not... this is new to me.. he has a buch of pistols and rifles but he thought I would be most interested in the antique lever gun... I never saw an old gun in the white or any thing and if anything the metal truly looks damascus... if it is damascus or a really old and special gun .. how do it tell if it is worth me getting for someone else, even ? I do not want to get it and it be worth nothing... it would be easy for me to trade labor for smiths or other things I know what the value is approximately...
is it possible it is white and damascus ?
thnanks..

I would doubt it's damascus that was mostly used in shotgun barrels. There are several sites that list manufacturing dates for any serial number range on the old Winchesters.

.

I am guessing that it is a M0del 92. The serial number will tell you how old it is. Not likely damascus but it could be nickel plated. A picture would be worth a thousand words.
