I wanted a traditional looking sheath to go with a Queen Cutlery butcher knife (note rosewood scales)I found in an old hardware store in Athens, AL for $15.00. This sheath is made entirely from scraps. The fringe is from the flap of an old shooting bag I made years ago. It is alum tanned deer hide and was the excess I removed from the flap because it was too long. The sheath itself is leftover cowhide dyed with wet crushed walnut hull paste. All the stitching is with linen thread from Walmart. The harness rivets were a gift. Friends made the spoon & striker and they were gifts from them. A good friend gave me the hawk which is forged from a gun barrel. This hobby can be done cheap if you aren't too picky and you have good friends.

Wow...that's a nice looking setup. Aren't friends "great".....by the way, I had the same knife for years. It would hold a great edge. The wife got a new curtery set a number of years back and tossed all the old ones out. :(

Nice work. I have been thinking of making knives out of old rusty files I found in my barn. I always wanted a Daniel Boone knife which is very similar in design to a Viking Sax. I'd love to smelt my own bronze and make a copy of the " Ice Man's" axe but I think that belongs in another forum somewhere. All I'd need is a really hot fire and some copper and tin. Heck, don't stop there. The possibilities are endless. I found a nearly perfect 6" flint knife that is beautiful and if I ever get around to it I'll make an antler handle for it and share the photo. Also have a lance point and a tomahawk head of flint. Tried flintknapping for a while but never actually made anything but gunflints. Coshoctan flint from Ohio is darn good gunflint material. Check out the yahoo group "The Tarp" if you are interested in such things. Always wanted a pair of knee high beaded moccasins too. Sorry this is so long. I'm bored tonight.
