What ammo have you other users found accurate in the 39A?
So far, Remington Thunderbolts are shooting better than Federal Copper Clad HP in my gun.
However, I have been warned that the Remingtons might lead the barrel.
How can I detect and remove th elead?

Welcome to the forum hmeier4799. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.

None of the modern 22 ammo on the market will lead the barrel. Some will certainly be dirtier than others and many rifles are very picky about what shoots more accurately. Many folks do not clean a 22 often, especially with a cleaning rod from the muzzle. That's one of the biggest barrel killers of 22 rifles.

My Dad and me were never picky about what ammo I used for the 39A I shot when I was growing up, and it seemed to be plenty accurate with just about everything we fed it. We shot whatever the local "Wheeler's" store had on sale - for the longest time it was cartons of basic Winchester Western ammo.

Both my old 39A, and my new one will shoot most anything you put in them quite well.

Mine shoots CCI Mini Mag HP's, and SK SSHP's the best.

+1

I have never been one to buy into expensive 22 ammo. Instead, I buy the bricks that are on sale. My 39 Mountie prety much shoots anything i drop in the mag tube, but as of late has been on a steady diet of Bulk Remington.

It did NOT shoot the Winnie Wildcats as accurate as others, but there were no issues with the feed and fire of the ammo.

My 1948-vintage 39A shoots 'most anything decently, but of all the loads I've tried it shoots CCI MiniMags the best.
