Good Evening,
I was wondering if anyone here has one of these powerhouses. How are they to shoot, and what is the accuracy like? I am interested in getting the accumark in 338-378 further down the track. I would not use this cartridge too often, but I simply just want one. Who knows, in the future might take a hunting trip overseas. If you had this rifle, what game and where, would you hunt. I have a 22-250, 7mm Rem Mag and a 22 mag. I figured I may as well have one big kicker of a gun.

Allow me to give you my perspective on a similar weapon.
I have the Weatherby Accumark in .30-378. Yours will be the same except the chambering.
The stock is great. The action is fully supported with a aluminum bedding block. The bbl is free floated the "right way". Bbl is 28" as to get the max velocity from the cartridge. The Accubrake works like a champ. You owe it to yourself to fire the weapon just once w/o the brake so you will fully appreciate it. The weapon comes with a screw on thread protector in case you want to leave the brake off(???).
The trigger is ajustable, and mine is set for 2 1/2 lbs with NO creep. The weapon comes with sling studs(the std. 1/4") and the front will support a Harris bipod very well. The recoil pad works well and is fairly spongie.
I hand load for the weapon and have moly coated the bbl(before the first shot) and shoot only moly coated bullets. With the almost max pressure handloads in 190-240gr the weapon recoils like a .30-06,150gr. No kiddin',really,no BS. Most people cannot believe that I sit at the bench at the range and shoot 20(or so) rds W/O a PAST on. The Accubrabe WORKS !!
The down side is the muzzle blast and overpressure. Hearing protection is mandentory for range or hunting. If someone is along side of you make sure to have them move to well in back of you before you fire. The 122 grains of powder that my weapon burns creates quite a fireball also.
My weapon has a Leupold 8.5X25X50(LRT) with target turrets mounted on top. It will shoot MOA out to 700yds and a little over MOA at 1000. Would suggest that you budget to put allot of scope on the weapon. A higher end scope in at least 6.5X20X50 would be my suggestion. With target turrets also.
For extremely long range shooting where energy is also a factor(hunting)I would highly reccommend the Accumark. I have owned mine for 5 years now and still absolutely love it. -----pruhdlr

How many rounds do you have through the barrell? I to was contemplateing getting an Accumark in .338-378. I shoot a lot and like to shoot big guns. I have hurd stories of people buring out barrels is as little as 600 rounds with these two calibers. I dont want to have to replace a barrel every couple of years or so.

I don't think the barrel would last too long. Then again, would this be the type of gun you use frequently. I already have a 7mm mag, but this will just be one of those guns which I might use every so often on a hunt.

My .30-378 has 550'ish rds thru it and is still very accurate.
Name of the game is ---> new weapon, before first shot, moly the bbl the proper way, shoot ONLY moly coated bullets, clean often while shooting using the proper solvents,do not let the bbl heat up.
ENJOY !! -----pruhdlr
