I'm new to shooter's forum, and I have a question that I'm hoping you all can help me with. I have a glock g30 45acp with a 3.78 inch barrel. speer recommends I shoot 230 grain gold dots designed for short barrels for personal defense. They say the short barrel ammo is designed to penetrate and expand optimally compared to standard 230 grain gold dots at around 750 fps. Noone is talking about this short barrel stuff online. Speer has tested the round and it penetrates bare gelatin and clothed gelatin 14.5 inches with an expanded diameter of around 0.74 inches. Should I go with the short barrel ammo for my 45acp or should I stick with the standard 230grain stuff?

The short barrel stuff has a bigger open cavity, which won't be an issue for feeding in a Glock, but other short .45s might not be able to feed the stuff.

I like the Federal HSTs better than the Gold Dots, but they aren't available as reloading components.

I want penetration first n foremost, expansion is fine as long as it is not at the expense of penetration..The standard Gold Dots open rather easily as is a wider moth a slow velocity makes me worry about pentration.
The only way to know for sure is to try them....
