So I got myself in a local Action Pistol group about 4 weeks ago. Today was the first match for the group in Bozeman, about 180 miles away. It was a three gun event. I learned a few things, mainly not to ever shoot low recoil target shells to knock over steel targets. It worked for the close ones, but nothing more than 7 yards out. Also, nobody else had the berries to shoot an M1 Garand .30-06, the vast majority had ARs, one Mini 14, one Thompson .45, and two SKS's. So out of 50 competitors, I was the only Major Rifle shooter. That means I got first place. With the ammo problems I had in shotgun, I did terrible. I did okay on the 3 pistol stages, but two stages required 4 magazines, luckily somebody else was shooting the same handgun I had and loaned me one magazine so I didn't totally embarass myself there.
The main thing was that even though it took 8 hours to shoot all the stages, it was a lot of fun. Even though I was shooting the M1 and limited to 8 rounds per reload, and the guys with the ARs had 30 round magazines, I actually beat a couple in my squad.
