I have and shoot lots of guns. The most accurate is a Ruger #1 25-06. This gun will shoot 2 inch groups at 400 yards. I like this gun , I was wondering what your most accurate gun is?Q

Sold it a couple of months ago. Remington 788 in 222 Remington. Right now it is a toss up between my Sako Vixen in 222 Remington Magnum and my Encore in 204 Ruger.

AlleninAlaska, to bad you weren't closer I'da taken that old worn out 788 off your hands. My 788 in .223 is probably my most acurate gun right now. followed closely by my 788 in what else?? .222. To bad they don't make them like that anymore.

Currently a Rem Mod 700 in 17 Rem that was rebarreled in a - IIRC - a Shilen target grade semi-heavy barrel. Haven't shot it on paper beyond 100 yards, but at that it's a 3/8" - 1/2" shooter, and it slays varmints pretty consistently out to 300 yards. On various days, a Win Mod 70 XTR (post-'64) 25-06, Browning A-bolt 338 WM, and Mauser VZ24 6.5-06 will give the 17 a run.

CZ actioned 9.3X64 with a 26'' #4 contour Douglas premium barrel. 5 shot groups one ragged hole at 200 yds. with a 286gr. Partition.
also have a restocked M70 classic stainless in 270 that shoots about inch and a half at two hundred.

X3 on a 788 in .222. Being a dummy I traded mine years ago for a 700 in 22-250. Even after tuning it up the 700 was never the shooter that .222 was. All wasn't lost on that experience though, now I never get rid of anything that shoots exceptionally well.

My most accurate now is a Savage model 12 in .223

that'd have to be my 6.5X55AI... it's an 1899 oberndorf action(still cock on close)with a shilen #3 bbl in a boyds dakota will stock. i've got an older leupold M-8 fixed 7.5 power scope on it and at 100 yards it will put 5 shots into one obround hole every time. it seems to consistantly be a 1/4" gun, i've been using the 130gr barnes tsx fb bullets and ramshot magnum but i'm gonna work up a comparable load with the 129 gr hornady since they are more economical to shoot.
ramshot magnum seems to be great in this cartridge, i'm getting just under 3,000fps and no pressure signs at all. could probably get at least another 100fps or more but don't really see the need, i figure that if a 130 tsx 6.5 bullet @3000 won't do it then i need to go to a 300 or larger.

i can shoot a 1 shot, 0" group with any rifle i've ever used :p

Seriously though, all the rifles i currently have here are hunting rifles, sighted in by my dad. as long as each bullet lands in the 1" circle while cold, it's fine.

having said that, the Rem. 597 in .22 WMR will occasionally cloverleaf at 100 yards.

It's a toss-up between my pre-64 Model 70 in 220 Swift, and my 25-06, built up with a Hart match barrel on a pre-64 Model 70 action. Both give 1/4" to 3/8" 5-shot groups at 100 yards.

Just out of the box or without tuning, these three have impressed me and all will shoot 3/8 in groups or better with a 3X9 scope.

700 Classic in 25-06, 117 gr Sierra, AA3100

M77(tang safety) Varmint .243, 87 gr H-vmax, AA4350

and last but not least the most accurate, a 722 in 222 Rem Mag; it will near one hole with a beat up ole Weaver K6 and factory ammo. Reloads with the old style Hornady soft point equal that. Got 20 boxes of factory ammo with it but have a buyer for that.

The most accurate out of the box guns across the board has to be the 788. Thieves got mine, a LH 6mm. Have had 22-250's but shot the barrels out of them and let them go.

I'd have a tough time affording one today myself. When I bought mine 8 years ago, they had no "stock" rifles -- all were custom made-to-order -- and the price since then has gone up nearly $600! Glad I made up my mind to go ahead and get one back then. The only change I would make if ordering one today -- realizing now how compact they are, I would have gone with a 26" barrel rather than a 24". But, I have no regrets!

I have several very accurate rifles. This one is probably the most accurate.

TC Contender with MGM Shilen barreled .204 Ruger 23" full bull SS. It will productively eliminate pds at 400 yds pretty much at will. No doubt it has more range but to 400 it is the most accurate I own.

Man, I'm going to have to look for one of those 788's.

I was going to take my Sako in 222 Magnum to Montana with me on this move but I have 66 boxes of factory ammo for it. That puts me over the 50 pound limit for ammo on Alaska Airlines so I'm just taking 204 Ruger, 223 and 500 S&W ammo.

I have to say its a toss up between my 204 cz 527 or my Ruger #3 in 30-40 krag. The 204 so far will put 5 into about 3/4 inch at a 100. And the krag will put 3 shots into 3/4 at a 100. Ive got some new loads that Im going to try in the 204 though to see if I can tighten up the groups a little bit

My most accurate rifle, currently owned, is my Kimber Of Oregon M-82 (Series "S") in .22 Hornet. It places a five shot grouping in pratically one hole. I really think it all has to do with it's very light trigger pull and prudent handloads. My Browning .308 A-Bolt "Hunter" come in a very close second it is scary accurate!

Monty - Yes its homemade....I bought the banquet table legs and had to modify the back set to narrow them up a bit. Then I made a raiser to raise the whole table up 2 inches because I'm tall. The top is made of black delrin and is mounted on a subframe. It flexs just enough to conform to the ground. It has to be all weather because I often leave it at the old farmhouse on the pasture.

Thompson Contender in .223 and hand loads, consistent 1/2 MOA. Much harder to accomplish (for me) but just as satisfying is the S&W Model 29 2" at 100 yards.

I had one of those Contender's back in 77-79. Had a 10 inch 223 barrel and a 10 inch 357 Herritt barrel. I couldn't keep scopes on that 223 or the Herritt for the life of me. Recoil with that short light barrel just was to much for the rings and bases available then. I had the idea of hunting with the 357, but never did. That was up in Alaska and it seemed I always ended up with a rifle in the woods.

I'm using the 15" barrel and fortunately, the quality of scope mounting must have improved....never have had a problem. And my eyes do require a scope for .223 range shots :(

faucettb

There's lots better mounting solutions now and the 15 inch barrels are heavier which really helps. Those first light Contender barrels were all set up with open sights and scoping handguns was just in it's infancy. Scopes and bases and rings were really not up to the recoil generated by the heavy loads a Contender could generate at the time. We've come a long way in nearly 30 years.

Over the years I've owned a bunch of accurate rifles, Had a solid bottom Mauser action bench gun with a Heart barrel in 222 Remington that I competed with til the then new sleeved action bench guns came along. There was a Sako 223 heavy barrel gun that even with the heavy barrel weighed 8 pounds that was a dinger. I built a 308 Norma mag on a commercial Mauser action with a Hobaugh barrel that loved 180 grain Sierra's and just shot great groups. My Nephew in law has that gun and after he retired from teaching engineering at the University of Idaho he retired to Alaska and is still using it.

I ran a small gunsmith shop and with my FFL I bought and sold lots of gun over those years. Both of the ones mentioned above are long gone along with others that I'd wish I'd kept. Over the years hundreds of handguns and rifles have passed thru the shop. When I got older and shut down the gun business I just kept what I hunted with, though there was always some trading material around and I still like putting up a booth at a local gun show once in a while.

Sure wish I'd kept that old Mauser bench gun, it was a great shooter and for the life of me I can't remember where and to whom it went.

Well guys I'm a little disappointed that no one has mentioned Savage on this thread:confused: Mine is a Mod 12VSS heavy varmint and weighs 13.25 lbs when dressed. It will and in fact did shoot a .552 200 yd group this past Saturday.
I also have a 110 Tactical .308 that will do .5 100 yd groups often. And a 112 in 270 that wil do .75 - 1 " any day.
The best suprise is my 1895 in 45/70, it will often do 1" at 100 yds with prefered loads.
I also have two very dissapointing rifles in my safe, one is a Remington model 7 in 243, 1.75"-2" no matter what load, this thing really pisses me off! The other is a Savage .22 heavy barrel boltaction that will not group for $h!t.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading through this thread.
As for many of you, my most accurate rifle is a .22, a match rifle by FWB. It is way more accurate than I am capable of shooting it. (maybe the question should be "what is the best you have shot from your most accurate gun?") The FWB has produced 10 shot groups of 0.50 inch at 100yds with Federal match ammo.
My most accurate "gun", however, is not a firearm but an air pistol, also a FWB. It comes with a test target that shows a single hole, slightly larger than 0.177" through which five shots have been fired from a machine rest. I have a Free Pistol that may be as accurate but not in my hands.

Most of my guns are hunting rifles, and over the years my most accurate was a Sako 75 in 270 Win with a 4.5x14 Leapold on it. With 130 Grain SST's its not only accurate ( lotsa groups with one ragged hole at 110 yards) its consistantly accurate.
Now I am the proud owner of an Ed Brown Damara in 280 Rem. With a 4.5x14 Zeiss Conquest, its as good or better than the 270 with factory Federal 140 grain Nosler Solid base.

My Ruger M77 MKII .25-06 is by far the most accurate, .333" at 200 yards. Factory barrel, tuned factory trigger and stainless steel bedded action.

My Rem 700 in .204 is a close second, but I keep having scope problems, I'll never buy another BSA scope.

My Ruger M77 MKII .350 Rem Mag is my new project though, I've got a Leupold M8 6x-42 Ballistic Plex scope on it. I just need to get the trigger lightened up a bit and fix the flex in the tip of the fore stock.

I have some custom made rifles and some off the shelf jewels...but by far the most accurate rifle I have is my Husvarna .243. This rifle was made in the 1950s from a model 98 action. For some time the rifle would not shoot without a fifth round flyer. I relieved the barrel and lapped it...It likes Noslers.....and shoots them in one hole at 100 meters. My most accurate is Susanne. She started life as a .25-06 Rem 700 Sendero, but I never was happy with the 25-06. It simply wont do what I want done and was too finicky to work with reloading wise (for accuracy) so I had Susanne's action blue printed, a Shilen 26 inch1:10 match barrell put on, and then I glass bedded the action and worked the trigger. After fire lapping and mounting the scope I get consistent sub-MOA groups in the new 30-06 chambering! Which I am MUCH happier with. I have a love affair with the 30-06 anyway....

Honorable mentions are my 788 in 22-250 and a 22 WMR Marlin that shoots as good as an Anschutz and I have no idea how or why. :p

here is Susie:

Just caught this thread while surfing this site. My most accurate is my Ruger 10/22 Magnum. It's my favorite squirrel rifle. Best group so far, 5 shots, is .097" at 50 yards using a 4-16 Tasco scope.

I have an old Remington 600 "Mohawk" in .222 Remington. The worst group it ever shot could still be covered with a nickel. Tuned loads of 19.6 grains of IMR 4198 and flat base spire point match bullets (Berger 52 grain) run typically in the mid 1's to low 2's from it, depending on what kind of shape the shooter is in that day? The gun is as it came straight out of the box. Nothing ever done to it. Not even a trigger.

My most accurate is my Encore in a 22-250. Shooting MOA groups at 200yds. Once I figured out the ballistics, I have not missed a chuck in 2+ years. I have the feeling I have a close runner on my hands in my new 7mm-08 in a Remington 700 boone & crockett. Using factory Federal 140gr accubonds, I was able to punch out sub .75 MOA this past weekend at 100yds. Cannot wait for whitetail season this year!:D

I have a Savage 111 .270 that regularly shoots sub-half minute. Smallest group so far is .12". Best load has been 60gr Re22, Nosler BT's and CCI200 primer. I use Lee collet neck-sizer dies.

Coming up quickly is my Vanguard Sporter .257wby that was shooting zackly like crap when I bought it. It's been pillar bedded, floated, bore lapped and polished, several loads worked for it....it now shoots .50" @ 112yds, and recently a 3.25"@425yds. Not bad.
