I have a model 94 AE .357 and the carrier will not pop up to put a round in position to be loaded. I've taken the gun apart and nothing seems to be amiss. There hasn't been many rounds through this gun either. Any ideas as to what's wrong?

A different problem, if I try and load one too many rounds in, the plunger gets stuck and I have to take the end of the magazine off to push it back down. Can't see anything wrong there either.???

Oh yeah and hi to all this is my first time on here.

First, the carrier problem. Usually the problem is that the carrier will elevate, but will not stay up to permit feeding of the round. This is normally a problem with the carrier spring, an arc shaped spring screwed to the left receiver wall, which has a 90 degree projecting finger on the outer end. That finger is supposed to engage a notch on the carrier and hold it up.

A mag follower that sticks as you described is likely to be catching on a small dent in the mag tube.

The carrier stays in the down position doesn't rise at all. I can however push it up with a screwdriver and halfway up it snaps up into place.

Is the carrier pushed up by the spring solely or is there something else that gives it a push to get it over it's breaking point to snap it up. It seems that the breaking point on mine is too high. The breaking point is where it will, one way snap up, the otherway snap down.

I plan on ordering a new spring if that's not it I'll keep replacing parts till the problem goes away. I hate doing that cause it always costs more and it ends up being the last piece you guessed.

The mag tube is with out dents or at least ones I can see. Replace follower and spring then if need be the most expensive tube.

If you can't figure it out throw money at it till the problem goes away!

The carrier is elevated by the rearward travel of the bolt. All the carrier spring does is act as a detent to hold it up while the cartridge is fed. I have never seen a case where the carrier would not elevate, and can't visualize what your problem is. You need to take the gun to a competent gunsmith.

Something is binding the mag follower. The most common reason is a small dent in the mag tube. The first place I would look is the groove through which the magazine band screw goes. That is the thinnest place on the tube, and the most susceptible to being damaged.

Throwing money at it will do nothing but reduce your supply of money.

.

Replace the carrier. The tab just above the pivot pin is bent or broken off.

No the tab is still there but after futher investigation I've concluded that the bolt is not coming back far enough to push on the tab. hmmm?

Problem solved. Now I feel like an idiot. It seems an after market hammer extender was the culprit. It was keeping the hammer from going all the way down and thereby keeping the bolt from going all the way back. I didn't think of it cause it does work on there, it slipped up the hammer just enough to cause the problem.

Thanks for all the help! Thanks QC the mag tube is pinched in a certain spot.

I have a better understanding of the mechanics of this gun now.
