I am starting to shoot again and need a good rifle to take out pigs also deer. I need to know if a .270 would take down a wild pig. Any advice from anyone. I also am trying to find a place that I can get a nice rifle and at a good price.

P.S I live in the DFW area

A .270 will do fine on almost anything in North America.

Tikka and Savage can be had at good prices and are crowd favorites. However, give a bit more detail about what you're really looking for: cost, weight, material (wood/synth), optics, other use, etc...

Lots of experience around here, so you'll have lots of good advice. But, helps to know more about what your needs/wants are.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum txsarge. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.

It would help us to know what kind of action you prefer. Bolt, lever, semi-auto? What kind of price range you have in mind? Inexpensive, Medium cost or high end rifle?

Keep in mind that some states have regs that allow and don't allow certian calibers for hunting so you might want to check your state regs to see what you can and can't shoot.

Personally I don't recommend any calibers smaller than 243 for deer and I have no experience with hogs, but lots of our members here do. I'm a bolt gun kind of guy and shoot a 280 Remington for deer and an 8mm Rem mag for elk out here in Idaho. Rifle choice can hinge on how far you shoot in the areas you hunt, i.e. Most Eastern hunting is done close up where Western hunting can require long range shooting.

My friends have killed lots of pigs with .270s. Have fun and good luck.
