View Full Version : AimSHOT holographic sight
Has anyone tried the AimShot holographic sight. Hog hunting gets close here in Louisiana. Sometimes the shot has to be quick and in thick brush. The price doesn't seem to be too bad at $140 for a four reticle 34mm sight. Since I crossed the 50 year mark, iron sights are getting hard to see. Hoping this might help.:D

Welcome to the forum guyz. Rules are simple, be nice and join in. We have some younger readers here and try to write to accommodate them also.
I've tried one on a friends Mini-14. We had some problems with it changing point of aim when he switched between reticles. I shoot an Aimpoint 5000 and though it only has one reticle, a one minute dot it works very well. If I were going to get in inexpensive dot sight I'd probably look for one with a fixed reticle after the experience with that one.
Think if I'm hunting close-in and in thick brush, I'd opt for a single reticle with at least a 4 MOA dot. Larger if possible. Sometimes, the dot is a little hard to pick up quickly, especially in broad daylight. I have one of the new Burris halo sights on a Ruger MkII .22 Pistol and think it's a great little sight.
Thanks Bob. I have a feeling if you experienced problems with the sight moving, and the rough treatment I'm going to give it, the problems will not be worth the savings. I think I probably need to spend a little more and get a more reliable sight like the Aimpoint or step up to an EOTech. My grandfather used to always say, "don't be afraid to pay for good stuff."

I really don't think you need to spend the big bucks for the sights you mentioned, not that I don't really like my Aimpoint, but my old hunting partner has a less expensive fixed dot sight on his Mossberg 835 3.5 inch 12 gauge with a single red dot and he's been shooting that high recoiler now for three years with it on. It's just the one you mentioned has a movable system of changing reticles and that, at least to me, seemed to deliver so-so accuracy when the reticles were changed.
That's good to know. I sure don't have anything against saving money.:)
