Any comments on the 50AE in a revolver? Anybody got one? I'd like a baby brother for my 45-70 bfr, and the only short calibers that interest me are the 475 linebaugh and the 50AE.

The 475 is an awesome cartridge capable of taking any game in the World. The 50 AE is a rimless cartridge and that eliminates it from my consideration as a revolver chambering. The 500 JRH on the other hand is another Awesome Cartridge capable of taking any type of big game that one wishes...

Would the 500 jrh be a short cylinder or a long cylinder?

What are you calling a short cylinder?

He's talking BFR cylinder length...
I have a .475 Linebaugh in the BFR...great gun, just got to take the time and play with it more. With the way lead prices are going, finding myself shooting the single six instead.

The Linebaughs and the .500 JRh are by no stretch "short" cartridges until placed alongside the .45-70! If you intend to hunt with it, the .475 and .500 Linebaughs and the .500 JRH will not leave you wanting.

I believe that the .50AE would be a "short" cyl.

Make sure that you check closely the power levels that are produced by the .50AE cartridge. They are not as "impressive" as some people think they are given the 50cal designation. Now with the proper bullet(heavy, seated long)those ballistics could possibly be improved somewhat.

For me,given the two choices mentioned, the .475 Linebaugh(or .500 Linebaugh) would be my pick. -----pruhdlr

The 500 JRH is chamber by BFR. The 500 JRH is avaible through the Custom shop.. Teh loadeed lenght of the 500 JRH is the same as the 4175 Linebaugh..

In fact, I think the .500 JRH is just a hair shorter.......this is the next caliber handgun I am going to have built as a backup weapon.

.500 JRH. It fits the standard sized BFR guns, and works very well. Killed a bison with it, no problem.

My opinion, the rimmed JRH case is more versatile than a rimless .50 AE in a revolver.

If the 500 JRH is the backup, whats the main show? A belt fed 50 bmg? A 4 bore front loader? 20mm anti tank rifle?

It's a back-up in that it will have a short barrel (4-inches) and it won't have any optics but iron sights on top. Unlike my .475 Linebaugh which is a primary hunting tool with a 7.5-inch barrel and a red dot topside. I also always like carrying a waepon as a back-up for finishing shots and such while handgun hunting.
