Does anyone know where to find replacement barrels for the cva hakins rifle? I would like to replace the barrel with another .50 cal or maybe a.54 cal if it is possible. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum old gunner. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.
I would check with CVA first. Cabela's sells replacement barrels along with Brownell's and Midway.

If you talk to CVA, ask for a discount or a dealer who will discount. I had that same situation with Lyman (who wanted full list price for a barrel). They sent me to MidSouth Shooters Supply who will discount. Take care...

CVA Hawkens had a slow 1 in 66 twist (I had one once many years ago in a 50) and were good RB guns. I would suggest that you rebarrel it to a 54 slow twist. You will not find a 54 RB lacking in field performance.

The only place to find CVA traditional parts is a place called Deer Creek. CVA does not carry traditional parts any more. You may also want to try some of the auction sites. The .50 CVA barrel is 15/16". The .54 is 1". A .54 cal. barrel will not fit in a .50 cal. stock. You might find a 15/16" .54 cal. barrel at Track of the Wolf and have it fitted to your CVA stock, but that would be costly.

Green mountain makes 15/16 inch 54 caliber 32 inch barrels with a 1 in 70 RB twist and has for many years. Now a 15/16th inch 58 caliber barrel would be very tough to find but not a 54 cal one.

I really love a .54 cal., personally. Track of the Wolf carries the GM 15/16" .54 cal. 32" barrel in 1 in 70" twist for GPRs and T/C. Cannot find one to fit the CVA. A friend of mine bought a couple of CVA Hawkens (one .50 and one .54) on one of the auction sites for $100 each. For about $100 more than a GM barrel, you can get a new .54 Lyman Trade Rifle from DNR Sports. Or keep your eye open on Auction Arms or Gun Broker for a .50 cal. CVA Hawkens barrel. Good luck.

I'm trying to figure what "won't fit" means. A new GM barrel "won't fit" either without a little work. $60 will buy a complete .50 at Wally World. Throw away the plastic and re-fit the barrel to replace the CVA old barrel. The breech plug may have to be swapped and wedge points moved, but for $60 it's a steal.

Anyone have a web address, or phone number to "Deer Creek"? I've got an ol' CVA Cougar .50 needing some parts.

Thanks 54cal, I'll give them a call tomorrow. I didn't see any parts for sale, looks like they would be a great source for info and would know where to get parts though.

Deer Creek does not have a web site. They are basicly a mom and pop operation, but they carry just about everything you need for the traditional CVA's. Here is their phone number: (765)525-6181.
