I know this is the classic, Chevy or Ford question I can't pick which one I want to purchase for my new rifle. A POF if your curious, I will post pictures when/if it ever arrives. I am not a new shooter and have used both before, I am leaning towards the M4 due to battery life and reliability of it holding its zero. With the eotechs if you get dirt or grime on the exposed elevation and windage knobs, the recoil of the firearm will throw the zero. Both come with decent mounts, no need to go to Larue Tactical and buy one.
Either one I can get at a very reasonable price, under 500. So the cost isn't the issue. Anyone that would like to opine?

Welcome to the forum nerfu. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.
Can't tell you about the Eotech, but I've been shooting an old Aimpoint 5000 for several years and have had pretty good luck with it.

Welcome to the forum.
I have shot both mounted on Ar platforms, and to my aging eyes the EOtech is faster.
I own the Comp m2 on my AR, and while it is a great sight, [but costly] it is tough as nails and will outlast me.
Often thought to purchase another, as N/E hunting is mostly in thick woods, it'd prolly work very well on a 30-30 or 35 rem lever gun.

I have some experience with Eotechs, I use them at work. I've experienced battery problems especially with the N battery model. I've seen point of impact shifts and the windage and elevation not tracking properly. I have lost confidence in them. They give a better(larger) sight picture than the aimpoints.
I am leaning toward the comp m-4 w/ a Larue mount. In both sights there has been an evolution in making them more reliable. Eotech also has a new model with the on/off buttons on the side where they should have been put in the first place.
Good luck.

I use an Eotech (AA battery) at work and have never experienced any battery problems. I change them once a month and put the old batteries in something else. I have also never experienced any problems with the zero moving. I keep mine clean and it has never failed me. I know the Eotech is used by lots of people in Iraq and Afghanistan and I never heard any complaints from them.

I have used an EO tech for several years...an N model...mounted on various platforms.....never had a problem with mine.....I even saw one that took a round and continued to function with the screen broken....the thing I like about them is that you can be off bore and still engage the target...and....in some kinds of shooting that fraction of a second is the difference between survival and second place......I don.t do that kind of work anymore but I still enjoy mine....I have mounted it on a Ruger 22/45 with an eight inch barrel....it keeps my basic skills up to speed...

I like the Eotech. I have it on a 10" bbl. T/C Contender in .44 Mag. I had had a number of scopes fail because of recoil but the Eotech has been fine. I have an Aimpoint on an Encore .308 15" bbl. Nice.
FWIW - Though you didn't ask about them, I really like the Trijicon ACOG sights. The 4X32 is one of the clearest, brightest scopes I have ever looked through. It goes off and on an AR-15 depending on what I am doing. I had one of their reflex sights slide mounted on my Bullseye .45 for one season; it stood up to the recoil and now lives on a T/C 10" 30-30 bbl.
