Have you thought about a genuine Garand from the CMP? Should fit well within your budget.

Nothing against Ruger, but if your looking for top accuracy I'd shy away from the Ranch rifle and look at an AR platform. Your going to find the Ruger plenty accurate for plinking, but minute of deer accurate instead of minute of angle accurate. Check out DPMS or any of the better AR platform builders.

Agree with faucettb - MOST ranch rifles aren't all that pinpoint accurate (OK, Ruger owners - relax! I've got a whole gun vault full of Rugers!), while I've heard good things about the AR platforms shooting this cartridge.
