View Full Version : Selling my Winchester
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c146/rushmoreman/forky4fin.jpg
I'm thinking about selling my 30-30 and buying a plastic stocked bolt action MAGNUM. Then these mulies I topple each year would be MORE DEAD! Please advise.

You'll regret it. I have Auto Loaders Pumps, Bolts, Single Shots, (underlever and rollong blocks.) and Levers. All will kill Mulies, but the Levers are more fun.

I read this as "you want someone to tell you to do it because you want a different rifle".
I "vote NO". Sell your hat to finance the new gun.

I'd advise you to sell. That 30-30 gets weaker every year. I'd probably be willing to take it off your hands for about $100, just so's I'd have something with which to plink in the garage. ;)
I'm hoping the other fellows who replied didn't miss the humor in your post!

I don't think that the mulies will get any deader, though there are some advantages to being able to make them dead at longer ranges. That South Dakota country can offer some long shots and being able to take those shots might be a good reason to get a magnum bolt gun.
I live in Idaho and have shot a magnum bolt gun for lots of years. I shoot a Rem 700 in 8mm Rem magnum and it's got plenty of reach, but I don't know if it kills any deader than the 280 Remington bolt gun does on deer.
Oh just to up the anti I'll raise IDShooters bid by 50 cents.

I'm telling ya, if ya don killem dead enuff they kum bak an haunt yer bones ferever! That's what the Buck & two does are doin to me for shootin 'em with a .357 levergun ;)
Since then, I suggest nuthin less than a .50 BMG Snubby Revolver.... or at least a 20mm BOFORS derringer.
That'll teach 'em. :D

Dead is dead period. Keep the 30-30 and find another way to finace the magnum rifle. Of course, if you do want to get rid of that 30-30 my birthday is coming up in July and You'll really make it a good one if you want to give it to me for my birthday present.

But no really. I wouldn't sell a winchester lever for anything. Too nice of a gun and too quickly becoming collector's items.

It works, don't sell it.

Thanks for the offer but my Winchester 30-30 isn't really for sale. MAG rifles don't kill any deader than non-magnums.
My daughter plans to clobber an even bigger muley this Fall. This one exceeded 300 lbs.

If you can't kill it with a 30-30 it's time to take a course in stalking.

Nothing like a thurty-thurty. My first deer rifle was a Winchester Model 94 Antique. I sold the gun to a buddy and still regret it to this day.

Aiming is not necessary with one of these - within 75 yards - as this type weapon kills by the 'percussion' effect. Only hunters with the latest percussion proof camo clothing should consider hunting with the aforementioned handgun UNLESS ther life insurance is fully paid up and no one truly loves them.

Maybe not. But they do kill just as dead farther and under more "less-than-ideal circumstances".
