Am strongly considering buying a P220 police trade-in. What are your expiriences with and opinions of the pistols, good, bad or ??
Thanks
Andy

The Louisiana State Police issue the P220 in 45 acp as the primary duty weapon. I had to opt out due to my small hands which did not fit the weapon.

It's a bit "blocky" but reliable as all get out and accurate to boot. Shooting Times once ran 10K rounds of ball ammo through one nonstop and managed to break the tip of the trigger pin after 6K rounds of continuous rapid firing. The gun still functioned in spite of that but the pin was replaced anyway. End results, two malfunctions due to operator error in loading the magazine, two failures to eject caused by an excessively dirty gun, and one FTF caused by an out-of-spec round. Re: 10 Grand SIG by Wiley Clapp, page 61, November 1994 issue of Shooting Times.

I have not put my SIG through anything close to this but my 10K rounds of reloads has yet to produce a misfire of any kind. Given that some departments have made the SIG 220 standard issue when less expensive choices are available says a lot about what they think of SIG. Oh yes, I mentioned accurate. Well, in my first outing with my SIG, I shot 6 straight Xs shooting slowfire at 25 yards into a NRA timed and rapid fire target one handed. Rather than break the string, I pulled the target and it now resides on the wall over my loading bench. If the SIG feels "right" in your hand, I'd suggest you buy it.

I picked one up about 6 months ago and it instantly became my #1. Everything about it I loved, Night sights (standard), the smooth recoil, the weight of knowing you have a mean piece of metal in your hands and the name sig sauer says enough. Alaso I look at any firearm that is standard issue to the U.S. Navy SEALs a good thing to depend on when the poo poo hits the fan.
