Well, it's not new, but new to me!

And really Hubby got it, but what's his is mine, etc....!:D

A S&W model 31 4" revolver in .32 S&W Long.
I already had a top-break Iver Johnson in this caliber, and the loading dies, so finding ammo is no problem.

It has some finish issues, worn bluing, light to not-so-light freckling/pitting, but action is tight. A good candidate for Duracoat, I think. A nice stick in my back pocket gun for walking the property!

Sounds like you have it all figured out. Does the hubby know he lost his gun alredy. :D

Show some pics whe you can. Especially if you duracoat it. I think that'd be cool.

We took some of our .32’s out for a walk today. Here are two pictures of our 3” barrel Model 31-3 and 36-6. That’s a .32 H&R Mag. M-631 4” in the middle. Very few revolvers are as much fun to shoot as the Model 31’s. Dave Ward dubbed the Model 36-6 the “Trail Masterpiece” and I believe it was Terry Murbach who called it the “Ultimate Kitgun.” I wrote Smith & Wesson urging them to make another run of this full-lug, dull-blue J-frames but in .32 H&R Magnum instead of .38 Special. Smith & Wesson wrote a nice long letter explaining they did not believe they could give the guns away. I believe the 3” full-lug barrel has better balance and “pointability” than the 4” barrels.
Charter Arms has the 4” .327 Patriot revolver up on their web site now and we hope to have one soon.
My wife asked what color you have settled on.<O:p</O:p

Hey William,

Tell your wife that I'll probably go with a matte black finish, maybe over a Parkerized base (would help cover the light-to-moderate pitting), and replace the wood with a set of Hogue grips.

She will like that, something about the "soft" or dull fnish she likes. The Hogues are a big help in hitting. It is amazing how easy it is to hit with the fixxed sights. Once you have your bullet weight and velocity figured out.

Here are two links to .32 threads from the Cast Bullet Assc. There is a third titled "Popguns" that is a good one. There are a lot of "Kitgun fans" around.

I bought a 4" barrel model 31 within the past year or two at a gunshow. There are great deals to be had on these older Smith & Wessons.
This little revolver has the finest trigger pull of any handgun I have ever shot.
