Barnes lists 54.0 to 58.0 grains of IMR 4831 for 30-06, 165 grain X bullets. Vel of 2600 to 2820 in a 24'" barrel.

This data is a bit dated (pre 168 grain bullets, pre TSX). Barnes is supposed to have a new manual out soon. If you're using the TSX bullet, you might be able to push a bit higher, but observe all precautions. I've topped out at 58.5 grains for a 168 gr TSX...2845 fps in my 24" Rem BDL.

IMR 4350 is the "most accurate" powder listed by Barnes for this weight bullet.

Feel free to call up Barnes...they are very helpful.

I don't have the new barnes manual yet,but each box of tsx you buy says you can exceed the the x bullet max listed load buy a grain or two,You have to ''work'' up your loads and not start at maximum.243 win with 85 gr tsx I can't get to shoot no matter what I do.My 7mm I shoot 160gr tsx and had great results with Reloader 22 and retumbo(not inthe manual)7MM rem mag is partial to slow burning powders in my my expierence.About 2/3 of my rifles shoot tsx from good to great, the other 1/3 don't care for them

Shorter barrels with a 1/10 twist (standard for .243) may have a tough time stabilizing the .243 because it's such a long bullet for the caliber. Not sure what the savage twist is, but if it's 1/10, you probably won't see very good results until you get close to max load, if at all. Even at max loads, my 15" encore would key-hole the TSX and shoot MOA with the shorter Sierra 85gr HPBT. Both loads were checked for seating distance from the rifling, etc - the TSX just wouldn't work in that short, slow twist. 20" may be long enough - not sure. Best of luck. I traded my 1/10 .243 barrel for a 1/9" 7mm-08 and can now shoot anything accurately up to 140gr.
