I have a R. Noske Scope that was given to me from my great aunt. It was on a Savage Bolt Action 250-3000 rifle. When I was young I found out it was a type A 2.5 power scope. But I don't remember anything else about it and I can't find any information or value on it. Does anyone have any information? Thank you

You have a rare and collectible scope. Made by Rudolph Noske in San Carlos, California between 1930-1939, these scopes were very high quality and were the first American made scopes with internal adjustments. According to Nick Stroebel's book, "Old Rifle Scopes", the 1939 fieldscope No.1 Type A cost $52.00. By comparison, a Zeiss Zeiklein (considered one of the best scopes ever made) cost $36.00. All Noskes have 7/8 inch (22mm) tubes & were essentially handmade, hence the disproportionately high price. Stroebel's book (published in 2000) lists the high end value at $225.00, but I've recently seen this scope go for $400.00 on eBay. I would hold on to it if I were you. None other than the dean of all gunwriters Elmer Keith stated, "To Rudolph Noske goes the credit for making the first good American hunting glass." High praise indeed!
