now that i just got my scope mounted on my rifle, i'm thinking about pulling it off and putting on see through scope mounts. is it worth putting on see through scope mounts if the scope is already 3-9?

i had those mounts years ago and will never use them again. wouldn't hold zero and sat the scope too high for my taste, making it hard to get good cheak weld to the stock. for close up shots you should be fine at 3x, but everyone has their own opinion on how they want their rifle set up and you should do what makes you happy, not me or someone else.

If your scope is unreliable, I would get rid of the scope. Want some backup in the field? Get quick-release mounts/rings (of a standard height). Even the cheap Weaver rings will come off in a few moments with nothing more than a quarter to turn them with, or any tool really.

definatly more than enought for minute of deer. at 100 yrds i was within 1/2" of original site in.
A waste of time, generally. All the folks I know (myself included) that put "see-through" mounts on a firearm removed them at an early date, as they found the scope mounting too high for good marksmanship and they never used the open sights anyhow, after mounting a scope.

I find that the higher up you mount the scope, the higher you need the comb built up in order to get a consistant sight picture, Then you have just defeted the purpose for the see through rings, because the iron sights will be too low so see properly.
Three to nine is a good general purpose hunting scope. You will find that the field of view is much better when set for three power than the nine power setting. Most of my hunting is within 50 to 150 yards, and so I use mostly fixed power scopes, as most variable scopes have a tendency to shift point of aim with a change of power setting, so I stick with a fixed power in anything from 2 to 4 power. I like seeing the entire animal in my scopes, not just a tuft of hair, or just a quarter of the animal.
When using a variable scope, you may find that many of them change the point of impact from setting to setting.

Ditto!
I thought it was a good idea for my first hunting scope
I also had a reticle that was composed with a solid verticle post and a fine crosshair. Both aree strictly for "open sight"people, who are adjusting to their first scope.
The see through mount was gone after the first year, and the post reticle is on a backup hunting gun(shotgun slug gun).
I would not advise anyone to buy a see through mount.
