Dear Friends,
I have come across a box of 9mm ammo marked +P+ Federal Cartridge company. The box says use only in hand guns approved for this kind of ammo.
I own a Beretta Model 92 FS and a Taurus 24/7 Pro. Will it be safe to use in these hand guns.

Both of those guns are rated for Plus P cartridges. If you have the manuals for them It will tell you in the manual. If not you can download the manuals from Taurus and Beretta.

Dear Sir,
What does Plus P stand for and what is the difference?

+P means that the cartridges have higher pressure than the standard loadings offered.
and the +P+ is loaded hotter than the +P. I still don't think there are any standars for +P or +P+. I read somewhere that +P is about 10% over standard pressure and +P+ is something like 30-40%
Don't use it in a old gun. The workmanship may be ther but older metal recipes weren't as strong as today's stuff.

There is no standard load for +P+ these are boardering on submachine gun loads. If i remember correctly. I have scene 9mm rounds labled +P++ those are strictly for sub guns forget using them in handguns. I have scene people shoot +P+ in handguns Several compaines market them. Buffalo Bore for instance has a few +P+ 9mm loads that they say are safe.

Exactly this is what I thought coz I saw one of my friend's damage his Glock 17 when shooting rounds which were to be used in HK MP-5s. He broke the pin which is along side the bolt and helps in ejecting the empty shell. The rounds were definitely hotter than the normal ones I had heard and the sound was deafening.

Gentlemen there are standards for everything. +P And +P+ are not random pressure loadings you can be sure of that.
