View Full Version : Let's Talk PMVI...

Fellows, the twists and turns of life and making a liv'n have kept me tied up the last six months and whenever I try to focus on the Match, something always seems to crop up and cause my focus to be redirected to another project.

Honestly, in the past the Match has consumed quite a bit of my time. It might not seem like it from the contestant side, but the gears that turn behind the scene are quite complicated. This has become more apparent for me as over the last couple of weeks I've been communicating with Big Med and Steelbanger, outlining what takes place during the match, and once it's on paper it is quite a project.

In a nutshell, to get this match going there has to be some changes. The purpose of this post is to judge whether these changes will significantly impact participation in the match. Let me outline my proposals for PMVI.

The Match will open immediately with the rules used in PMV.
The Match will close on August 31, 2008.
Standings will be posted at the end of June, July, and August.
There will be no door prizes this year. You will shoot for bragging rights and the "Place" avatars that I link to your forum signature.Like I indicated, there are some good reasons for each of the conditions listed above most of which deal directly with my time and resources.

Please, let me hear what you think about whether we should continue the match or not.

The rules of the prior match are fine by me as are the starting and end dates.

I don't give a rip about the prizes; although I appreciate the effort that has been made to provide them in the past.

If there is anything that I can do to help with the match I will be happy to do so.

There are a core of us that would be greatly saddened if the match did not go forward.

What he said, bragging rights is what it is all about.

Prizes??? We don't need no stinking prizes!!!

Can we keep the Trash Talk Forum?

You may want to think about limiting targets submitted.

I was under the impression that the original purpose for the postal match was to prepare for hunting season. On that premise, I will shoot in it if it continues. My lone levergun has been put on the back burner because of work, wedding planning and life in general. I would love to have a reason to shoot it again.

I don't see the need for prizes. bragging rights are worth more anyway.

Well this all sounds good to me and thanks for the support.

You may want to think about limiting targets submitted.

The database I've put together can keep track of any number of targets but Dave makes a good point that would ease the scoring by limiting the scanning/scoring. This said, I would hate to get a bunch of targets at the end of the match so if a shooter could just use his judgement and get targets in a timely manner it would really help. I still will be able to keep track of the best score and it would be interesting to have the number of targets shot throughout the match. I will get all of this written up and on the web page.

The plan's OK by me, R.D.

I'm not surprised to see unanimous approval of your decision. After all, we're shooters that enjoy shooting and find it interesting to have a friendly competition against folks from every corner of the country. I assumed fewer targets being sent in because of no prize drawings which in turn allows more time for your other more pressing issues.

Whatever it takes to keep the match rolling we're with you.

Another item that would be of great help, is having an individual on each forum where the Match is discussed to field questions via both threads and private mail. These Match "Ramrods" could ease my need to check the various forums and even may be broaden our reach.

Two fellows that have been pitching in have been "Steelbanger" and "Big Medicine". Steelbanger has agreed to be the Match Ramrod here at Shooters Forum and Big Med is going to take MarlinOwners. I'm discussing this task with past Match participants that frequent other forums to see if we can expand our participant base.

I will have to get these Ramrod an appropriate avatar for their signature block, especially Steelbanger as I know everyone is tired of looking at his red X!

A big Ditto for me too! Are you going to change the targets or can I take one to Aphagraphics and get a ream of them?? All I want out this is to get a lot of shooting in and to just beat Rowdy and his 444 one time!:D

Michael, I am truly thrilled you are willing to do this again. I can't believe what you did with it the last couple of years. Most people would have quit after one year of it. Many many thanks! I would keep it as simple as possible for you and I'm sure everybody will have a great time just competing with themselves and the other participants. I'v got a pinched nerve in my neck right now but it's healing and I'm looking forward to starting to shoot. Thanks again.

This all sounds good to me. The prizes just complicated things, let me know if I can help you "grade papers" but I believe this process may best be done by one practice.

Your doll doesn't have enough hair to work. I don't know about VTDW but I at least have a little around the edges. I guess you're going to tell us that's a ten shot target also. :D Intimidation won't work, you're in trouble this year!

Get well soon Mike:) I know the 'mind games wouldn't work on you.:D
But whatever you do, "Do not think about the Doo-Voo doll when you're shooting that final shot in and already beauty four shot group"...;)

I'm heading to the mountains such as we have here in PA for a week of trout fishing camp. I 'll be starting each day with muscle relaxers in the form of hot toddies before breakfast and enjoying myself and relaxing each day ( might even catch some trout!). I hope to come back and start shooting some of the several hundred pounds of bullets I cast this winter. It will be fun!:)

I'm sitting here drinking coffee out of my Marlin coffee cup and eating a deer sausage biscuit in my while wearing my Beartooth Bullets hat contemplating weather I will go shoot a target for this years PM. Now what do you think?

I did not kill this deer with the little lever, but I could have and I know my shooting skills have improved because of the Match.

A question came up on another forum about using shooting sticks and the answer from Ranch Dog is that they are legal but can't be attached to the rifle as a bipod. Also, they shoot in the bench category. Like Big Medicine said, anything that will bring in more participants.

Now someone will now ask if holding onto a huge old Oak tree is legal for a rest. I don't know, but maybe it could be -for Oakies!
