View Full Version : My Ruger SBH.....
Well here this last Saturday I picked up my SBH which I thought was a very nice find... with one exception and that was the FUGLY Hogue grips.

So I now got a very nice Karma from another SBH owner and today transformed my SBH to a much better look. So here it is along with my 290-gr SWC loads.

Those truly are some ugly grips. I like the stock one's a lot better too.

The only thing those grips help with, are testing HEAVY feeling loads, but that is all. I love the wooden grips so much more as it also does so much more for the look of a SA Sixgun.

I like the wooden grips best too. They just don't like me unless I am wearing gloves when I shoot my BH.
It's love/hate. I have a .44 Mag SBH with 7 1/2" barrel. While still fine to shoot with the wooden grips it's a real pussycat with the Hogues. If I were shooting lighter stuff it'd probably wear the wooden grips all the time.

I put a Bisley gripframe on mine, with walnut grip panels. That helped felt recoil and control a lot...and it looks great!

There's no debatin' that they're ooooogly, but they're some comfy! And at my age, comfort trumps appearance in more than one category...
That hogue is a great grip for hunting. Snow, rain, blood still won't make your grip slip. If I'm gutting deer and hear branches snapping behind me I want to know I'm not gonna drop the gun... I'm just saying...

So noted, and I will probably switch back to the Hogues during our hunting season just for that reason. For a hunting revolver I am looking for maybe the SBH Hunter in the 7.5" barrel and scoped.
