So through a bid-ness partner, I went rock chuck hunting up near Ephrata, two weeks ago. This paticular gent who is farming the ground was tired of losing his corn to the "Little fur-balls". So I got asked to go help thin the heard. Now as you all know, when someone tells stories of "We killed 70 the other day", usually no, or when you go then the story becomes "Well we must have killed them all".

Not so in this case! It was like being back in Elk River, shooting ground squirrels. I have never personally seen this many rock chucks in all of my life. When the field starts to move, and you can see them on the other side of a 140 acre circle... THEY ARE BIG!
There were 3 of us, and later the owner showed up, that first day. Rifles used ranged from 204's to 30-06's. At the end of the day the confirmed body count was 133. I have been back twice, and so far if you have ammo, and light; the hunting is just as good.

I have been using my 308 mostly, so not much is left to identify. But I'll get a pic of one of the grandaddy's and post shortly.

Man, I'm jealous! It would be neat to take a trip somewhere for that specific purpose because there sure as heck isn't anything like that near where I live.

So I went back on Saturday, was in the neighborhood on a delivery..
I dusted a few more, and was set-up for a double. Two little beasties were wrestling, I touched off a round and saw spray.

When I walked up, one was headless in Seattle, and the other one was just sitting there looking at me. Not a scratch on him, and he wasn't a young hatchling either. I kicked at him and he moved a little, but went back to his dispatched girlfriend. So a visit from Mr. 1911 at 2 feet took care of the issue.

Friggin' amazing.

That is amazing. This sound too fun - I need that farmers name! It would probably be worth the 5 hour drive for some practice with the new 22-250.

So I went back again this morning...
You can tell that we finaly made a dent in the population, but there is still a multitude of them. But at this point the corn and weeds have gotten big enought that there is entirely too much waiting.
The REALLY dumb ones who walk out into the road to see who's comming are few and far between.
So I guess that means wait till fall, or next spring.

Can't wait for round two!!
