Has anyone had any experience with Aquila IQ or RBCD personal defence rounds? The range I frequent swears by these but they are a little pricey(30-50 per 20 rounds respectively). Are they anymore effective than golden sabers? I know the RBCD is "sintered metal technology" and pretty much destroys a warm ham, and it is basically has the penetration of a FMJ from what I am told. The Aquila is like an aluminum alloy and is a 115g hollow point. I worry about the penetration of this round, but it is a very deep hp. What are your thoughts on these rounds? Thanks!

The best advise I can give you is to stick with what we know works.
You did not say what weapon or caliber you are using so I can't recommend a specific load. But stay with a medium weight, high velocity, Jacketed Hollow point and you will be fine in most cases. Most of the 'special' ammo have some very limited uses. For use for ALL possible situations you could encounter use the above. Unlike the movies or TV you will not get to 'plan' the deadly encounters you may face in real life!!:)

I am an avid handloader but when it comes to defensive ammo I always use commercial stuff. I do this because I don't want to a lawyer accusing me of building special ammo intended to maim or cause excessive damage. I simply don't have the resources to protect against that argument in court. so....I practice with what I load...shoot enough of the factory stuff to adjust and always load with the factory lawyer in my hip pocket.

Ditto on the Speer 135 gold dots. I carry a 38 special snubby and Speer shoots very well. I also use Winchester and Remington 125 gr +P.

Cor-Bon 125gr. .357 rounds in my snubbie. Put one through a deer's neck, once, and it was laying in the dirt perfectly expanded. Good enough for me.

I shot alot of 'coons with the IQ. It was the best killer sometimes, but mostly failed miserably........
