Can small pistol magnum primers be used in 36 special shells?

I sold my .357 magnum and had some primers left over.

I of course meant 38 special

Yes. I'd back the load off about 10% if they're Winchesters and 5% for the other brands.

You can fix your typos by clicking on the EDIT button in the lower right hand corner of the box your post is in, instead of making a second post. Nothing to it. ;)

Yes, but with a caution. If your loads are top-end, you might want to back down a hair. While the odds are slim that magnum primers will run up pressures significantly, it is possible. If your loads are in the "standard" range, I really wouldn't worry. If you see any change at all, it may be that the loads will lose a bit of accuracy with the magnum primers -- or gain a bit! :-)

I pretty much avoid this "problem" by using standard primers in all loads except for a very few heavy load/slow powder loads.

I've been using them for years in all small pistol cases. Just follow Jacks recommendation on loading.

Thank you gentlemen,

I make fairly mild loads, 3.8 gr Win 231 with a 158 gr SWC, about 780 ft/sec.

I did that once. Got some horribly looking flattened primers (Winchester) but no harm otherwise.
