The High Standard officer size 1911 is still at the top of my list. Having babysat my marines HK Compact while he was in the sandbox, I know I have handled and shot the best. Now I have to decide what I can settle for on a working family man budget. I like the feel of the Taurus Mill. but I have not shot it. It looks like it would be a handful. The Sig 220 feels good and probably shoots just as good but what about that price. $399 for the Taurus is feeling good now too. I shot the Smith officer 1911 last weekend and it was great. I did not like the feel of the Springfield. I did not even pick up the Kimbers.

Too many choices, not enough money.

Seems like you want a smaller framed .45 - Officer sized. I like 1911's myself -own two - but I have found the Glock 36 a very nice shooter. It's a "mini" gun but quite accurate and controllable despite that. Drops easily into a pocket. If you get a chance, it's worth a look (though it is somewhat pricier).

Rock Island Armory 1911, You should be able to get one for about 3-bills.
They are almost as tight as a Kimber, but feed all ammo as reliably at Springfields Mil-Spec.

The only Taurus I owned was the PT series 40cal.
That gun was a nice gun, but did NOT like shooting piles of rounds. The slide began to show ping marks.
