I was thinking of buying the walmart cheap ammo for range practice. how good is the remington UMC bulk ammo and Magtech bulk ammo brass for reloading? Is it worth saving after you shoot it?

I've been shooting Remington brass for years with great results. Buy it bulk from Midway. Any you don't want to save after shooting it once send to me. I'll give it a nice warm home.

Gee thanks faucettb for being so "helpful". But their daddy wants them to grow up to be home bodies. Stay at home for as long as they can.

I was afraid their maternal instinct would overwhelm them. Something that really helps with brass life is to anneal them about every five firings or so. Brass work hardens when fired and annealing brings the necks back to dead soft just like when they left the factory. It's really simple to do. Just stand the cases up in a shallow pan of water about a half inch deep and using a propane torch heat the necks to just red. Tip them over with a screwdriver (there hot). Let dry and load.

IMO, the least expensive and best brass for reloading is the namebrand brass that's once-fired and left discarded at my local range. Preferably still warm but an overnight cooling is not bad. My range opens Fridays through Mondays so after the weekend, it is a reloaders paradise. On Tuesday, the range is swept clean hence Fridays pickings are pretty lean. Your range may be open on different days but you get the gist. ANY discarded brass that is picked up still needs to be carefully inspected and NEVER load any brass to max unless you know it's history. Just my dos centavos.
