Hello,

King's Gunworks and Kimber both make a very similar ambidextrous safety, one that uses a special hammer pin to retain the right side safety.

Both have been out forever. I called Kimber a couple months ago and was told they'd have them in two weeks. They never showed up on the website for sale, as promised.

What's going on here? Have we had a sudden surge of left handers shooting the 1911 pistol?

Anyone have a clue?

Thanks,

IF you are in fact right handed, pretend your right arm is broken or disabled.

Try to flip the safety off left handed on a standard single sided safety 1911, while holding the gun in the firing position in your left hand.....

In my opine, an ambi safety on ANY weapon benefits both sides of the brain.....

I'm sure purists would disagree.

Hello,

I'm a lefty and thus need the ambi safety. I'm not a fan of the Swenson style everyone seems to be using.

I once built a sweet 1911 based on a steel framed commander series 70 that I bought for a song.
I went with the Wilson drop in stuff:
Ambi safety
Memory bump grip safety
Arched housing
Speed hammer
speed trigger.

I let the G'smith do the hammer/sear/safety, but all other parts I fitted myself and modified the grips to fit the safety too.
Personal preference is for the short ambi safety myself.

On my Champion, it came with an ambi that is a pretty good length. Don't snag, and comes on and off with a decisive CLIK!
