So a few days ago I was carying my Kimber Ultra Tactical II My arm brushed up agenst the gun and something felt wrong. I went into my grandparents bathroom to inspect and to my supprise the ambi safety on the left side was wiggley and broken. Gerr. I had to send this gun back to kimber 3 times. On the 3rd time They replaced everything on the gun except the frame and upgraded it to the internal extractor free of charge. :) got gun and functions great now the freeking safety broke!!! Is it common for the ambi safetys on 1911 style guns to brake? I am not going to sell the gun my other half likes it too much but I think it is going to become a range gun and I am going to have to get a different gun for CCW along with my S&W 642. Just cant trust it. I am not kimber bashing here I just seam to be real hard on stuff and for some reason this gun just does not like me. I have several frends that sware by them and they have had absolutley no problems with there kimbers. :(

Well you just never know. There is a post on this site which rates Taurus as a best buy but I have had very bad luck with four of them and on the Greybeard outdoors site they are considered a never buy gun. I think it just falls into the "stuff happens" category.:D

I have a Kimber as do many of my shooting buddies. This is the first broken safety I've heard of. I would call Kimber and explain all the issues you've had with the gun and their service thus far and see if they will make it right.

The shop at which I work has returned two Kimbers for repairs to the safety lever. Funny thing, when we called for an R.A. on the second one, the person at Kimber said "Huh, I never heard of that happening before!"
On the bright side, they return them very quickly.

I did call kimber and they told me that "it happens" they told me to send the gun back to them. If I wanted them to fix it. My local gun dealer who is also a smith is replaceing it for 30 bucks with a new one that looks just like the factory one. He was building a few 1911's and other projects came up so he had the part just laying on his bench. So he is going to fix it this week for me. I would rather get the gun back quick as possiable sending it off could take several weeks. Plus save money. I have not lost faith in Kimber, I know I am hard on stuff. According to my smith this is something that all 1911's are prone to that use the traditional ambi safety he showed me the parts what he said makes sence. He told me he has had several of them brought to him over the years. Usually from an impact. The left side, the main safety was still functional and he says thats generally what he sees. He also said it could have been this way for a long time because I am right handed I might not have noticed it. Its just anoying when guns brake
