How many of you would be interested in a .50 caliber cartridge in a short cylinder bfr(Basically a stainless Super Backhawk that has been hand fit and hand lapped barrel), That was the same length as a .45 colt(1.285") and bullet weights from 300g, to 500g, same case capacity as the 475 Linebaugh, and for around $800? I'm not trying to sell anything, just curious.

A jrh for $800? More along the lines of a rimmed 50 ae.

The JRH case is a bit longer than the .50 AE. It is one of the best kept secrets out there!

Explain, the comparison of the JRH to the 50 AE. I don't believe that an eight hundred dollar JRH is available since the 500 JRH chambering in the BFR is from the custom shop. I fail to see what a 50 cal revolver round with a 1.285 inch case has to offer that is more desireable than the 500 JRH with it's 1.385 inch case. It appears to be almost as the same just less. The 500 JRH is offered in factory form from Buffalo Bore with a 425 grain at 1380 FPS and a 440 grain flat point at 950 FPS. Jsut don't get the advantage of a shortened case.
Yep there it is:
The 500 JRH
This round was developed for conversions on the Freedom Arms M83. The factory rounds were developed and loaded for the Freedom cylinder length.
Although the conversions continue to be done, the round has been picked up by Magnum Research for the medium frame revolver.
The round uses a .500" diameter bore rather than the .510" and gives us more chamber wall thickness than the .500 Linebaugh cylinders.
There are several Rugers out already that were converted to 1.3" 500 S&W chambers by Jack Huntington, Dave Clements and others. This round and the brass works perfectly in those chambers.
Dies by Redding will work by cutting the crimper die length by .2". The Hornady dies work "as is".
Retail cost for boxes of 20 rounds is $32.00. Brass is .62 cents apiece plus shipping. Dealer pricing available.
The factory loads consist of a 440 gr. Cast Performance Bullet Co. LBT style LFN at 950 fps and 881 fpe. The second load consists of a custom 425 gr. Cast Performance Bullet Co. truncated cone penetrator at 1350 fps with 1720 fpe and 41 on the Taylor Knock Out scale.
Buffalo Bore Ammunition Co. has been contracted to produce this ammunition.

The reason being That no one offers a jrh for less than $1200. But by simply machining in space for a rim, Mag research would probably sell alot more of their 50ae's. Then later, if someone wants to spend the $360+ they could get the jrh cylinder. Thats all. I wasn't comparing the two, I was just seeing if anyone would be interested.

I gotta say it again, but I have a .338 win mag, a .416 Rem, and a .450 Ackley (550 grain bullet at 2200 fps), and when I carry my .475 Linebaugh, I don't feel undergunned in the least!

Hi,
re a BFR chambered for a rimmed .50 cal {0.500"}, with a case 1.3 inches long --
That is something I have been waiting for ....
it seems that a .50 AE cylinder could be counter bored, to accomodate the .500 S&W Special, as loaded now by Cor-bon.... or even a separate short BFR cylinder chambered for it -- {the .500 Sp. has a ctg. case 1.285 inches long, I believe, the same as the .50 AE}
the full sized .500 S&W is much too powerful for many/ most folks, whereas the .500 Special would get a lot more traction with shooters .... as it is within the evelope of manageability for most shooters, and the full house .500 is not
where /how to I order one...for $ 800 {without the custom shop uptick of approx. $ 350 for a special chambering} ???
if you've got any juice with those that make such decisions regarding the BFR offerings, sign me up for one of these. It {.500 or .50 'Special'} is a very sensible concept, and one which could be championed by M.R. / BFR
thanks,

A .500 JRH reamer will not clean up a .50 AE chamber....the AE is bigger in dia.
