Welcome to the forum.
We can guess on the powder, but that would be it - just a guess. No telling what was used and most likely it doesn't exactly match any other canister powder available to reloaders.
If you list the exact weight of some powder charges, well, that would make for a better guess.

In the past, any cartridge with a long history will have been loaded with different powders at different times. For example, M2 ball has been loaded with IMR powder, IMR 4895 powder, and WC 846 powder.
I see one U.S. specification used WC 846 powder in M80 and used a 146 grain bullet. I don't know if the U.S. always loaded M80 with that powder or not?
WC 846 has been sold by Jeff Bartlett and HiTech in the past. Jeff Bartlett said his lot worked like Hodgdon BL-C(2), and to use BL-C(2) load data with it. HiTech said their lot of WC 846 was about halfway inbetween BL-C(2) and Winchester 748, and to use data that averaged data from those two powders.
The question then is, do your particular M-80 cases have WC 846 powder in them? If so, that data will give you a place to start looking.

Has anyone thought about this post ? A person in the middle east is asking what kind of powder is used in our military M-80 ball ammo. The poster is apparently going to dissemble US military M-80 ball to use the powder to reload Russian 7.62x54MM R.
With the current situation in the middle east?
If this was 1943 and someone from Germany, Austria or the other occupied countries was asking what kind of powder is used in our M-2 ball ammo and how many grains of it would be used in a 8X57 MM case with a 196 grain bullet. Would you be answering?
7.62X54MM R is used in Russian Dragunov Sniping Rifles.
The question may be an innocent one,but maybe this thread should be left to fade away.
I'm sure someone here will call me paranoid.

Actually, if you would take the trouble to read the post carefully, you will see this fellow was asking whether we knew what powders were in both M80 and in 7.62x54R because he was pulling both kinds of ammunition down to get powder for reloading. He already has loaded ammunition of both types.

Hi
Thank you.
I am a young hunter and dislike taliban or any terorist groups., because it is very expensive to buy factory made cartridges - i wanted to reload cartidges like 270 and 8x57 with powder which i can find in surplus military ammo 308 kaliber and it is all.
my favourite loading is 130 gr in 270 caliber and 175 grain in 8x57 . i'll be greatful to recieve any information concerning reloding of follwing cartidge by using powder used in surplus 308 ammos.
the cartideges which i have are iranian made with a charge of 43 grain sepherical powder
best regards sepehr
Hmmmmm........................
Think you've got most of us stumped on the type of powder in those cartridges. Have no idea who supplies the bulk powder for Iranian ammo. Good luck in your search - always enjoy hearing from folks in different countries with hunting interests.
Also, hope you and yours are getting along well with the NATO forces there.
