Hi all, I recently acquired a really nice Marlin 39 deluxe S, L, and LR made in 1928. It is the deluxe model with 3X wood and is an 'S' prefix serial number and has the star on the tang. Blue is 95%. I have a Blue Book, but all the extra things mean I have no handle on the value. Wood and blue are 95% and the bore is bright and shiney. I don't find anything comparable on the auction sites, so perhaps someone here can direct me someplace or give me a best guess. Thanks, Doc

Doc,
Try over at Rimfire Central. I would also take a look at the gun auction sights. They're usually a little high, but watching what they actually sell for may help.
Nice find by the way. Love to see some pictures!
Good luck.

Being that the rifle has a star on it means it is the cream of the crop. Near perfection as they come from the facrtory. No telling what it is really worth, but I would guess more than 2000 dollars if it is in good shape, and maybe even quite a bit more. You have an outstanding 39 there.

Doc, that rifle is worth next to nothing. In fact, I think you should get rid of it at the first available opportunity, and just to show you how nice of a guy I am, I'll take it off of your hands for you so that you don't have to worry about - I'll even give you $100 for it. ;)

What a pal! I knew I'd make new friends who could help me.

au, there is only one deluxe and it's not close on all the auction sites.

GeorgeKY, exactly my dilemma. It's a 'what someone would pay' gun, but I'm not selling it, just trying to put a value for insurance and nothing in blue book covers this other than to say 'adder for this and premium for that'.

Hope I do these photo's right. Here's a couple.

Go over to rimfirecentral.com and look up vepr in the Marlin section. He can tell you all about your rifle.

See, it's all mottled looking on the stock and receiver - if it was really worth something, you wouldn't see any of that stuff. ;)

In all seriousness, that is one fine looking rifle and you did well to get your hands on it. I wish I could help you on the value, but suffice it to say, it's going to be considerably more than the smooth stocked, plain blued versions go for.
